This Friday, you will need to hand in a typed paragraph about the topic of your research paper. For this topic, you need to let me know which book you will be writing about as well as what sources of literary criticism you’ve looked at so far. I expect that you have started looking at sources of literary criticism. What issues do these authors (who are writing about the book) tend to write about (such as dialect in Their Eyes Were Watching God or the role of F. Scott Fitzgerald’s personal life in The Great Gatsby)? What kinds of issues addressed in the book could you write about in your research paper?

1. What news from Rosencrantz and Guildenstern makes Claudius hopeful?
2. What does Claudius and Polonius plan to do?
3. What does Polonius say that prompts an aside from Claudius? What does he reveal in this aside?
4. What happens in the conversation between Ophelia and Hamlet? Why does Hamlet criticize himself? What does he say?
5. What command to Ophelia does Hamlet repeat throughout his conversation with her?
6. What is Claudius’ assessment of what he has heard? What does he decide to do?
